BAND BIO
Compass & Cavern is a long-time friendship between Will Timbers and Chris Fruci disguised as an alternative rock band from Denver. Will & Chris have been writing and performing music together for over a decade. C&C is their current musical outlet for sharing deep thoughts, reflections, wild dreams, frustrations, strange stories, and more.
The band's sound is characterized by massive synths, riffing guitars, dynamic drums, vocal harmonies, and the occasional, but always appropriate, shaker. How do only two people (plus a drummer) pull this off? Surely with pre-recorded tracks, a back-up choir, artificial intelligence, etc...
Nope. It all happens live. The magic is real, and so is the friendship you see on stage.

BAND NAME ORIGIN
The name, “Compass & Cavern,” is derived from two concepts that resonated with us throughout the project’s formation. “Compass” refers to the phrase, “don’t confuse the map with the territory.” Will first came across this idea in college philosophy lectures and thought it was a particularly beautiful way of describing how we mistakenly claim to “know” things with which we have a surface-level connection. For example, we could learn everything there is to know about the Grand Canyon, but our understanding of its grandeur is incomplete until we actually experience it for ourselves. The “map” pales in comparison to the “territory” it is representing.
“Cavern” is an allusion to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, a parable that uses sweet imagery to help us understand how we develop ideas about what is “real.” Remember the black & blue/white & gold dress picture that took the internet by storm in early 2015? (FYI, we’re team B&B). That was a powerful and tangible example for how we can experience reality differently because of our varying perceptions of the surrounding world. Knowing this, how do we effectively and respectfully share with others what we believe to be true? We’re still trying to figure this out. So far, music seems like a good option.
